This program is geared toward outdoor enthusiasts interested in participating in outdoor adventures and field studies in the Rocky Mountains. The excursion will share the ecological legacy of predation by large megafauna in Yellowstone National Park. The geographical area of concentration is the famed Lamar Valley in the Northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park, one of the sites of the 1995-96 wolf reintroductions. There will be hiking, fly fishing, Wildlife observation and photography, exploring natural areas, historical sites, and nearby towns.

Daily Activities

Daily wildlife observations using sophisticated optics and modern cameras equipped with telephoto lenses. Interpretive programs lead by noted wildlife specialists, photographers, wolf-watchers and park biologists. Visits to notable sites such as geyser basins, habitat recovery areas, wolf re-introduction pens, old wolf dens, and lodges that are of interest to the ecology, natural history and culture of the Yellowstone ecosystem.

Fly Fishing & Instruction

By employing simple, primitive, lightweight equipment involving skillful operational techniques and using artificially prepared enticements resembling insects in various stages of maturation - Joe Allen will provide instruction and equipment in this pristine riparian environment along the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River, Wyoming's only federally designated Wild and Scenic River. Ernest Hemingway had a cabin here and was a frequent visitor to the region to fly fish and write.

NOTE: A Yellowstone National Park or Wyoming Non-resident fishing license is required to participate in this artistic activity.

Photographic Opportunities

Participants will capture once-in-a-lifetime wildlife visuals with the help of professional wildlife photographer, Dan Hartman and an arsenal of high-end photo and optical gear.

Guest Speakers

Accommodations

We will be staying at Silver Gate Cabins for 9 nights. Cabins are heated and cozy, with fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms with showers. The cabin complex has a general store with snacks, ice, maps and wolf/predator sightings and information.

Food

Four special meals will be provided in conjunction with guest speakers and special events. Due to numerous dietary idiosyncrasies, participants are otherwise asked to prepare their own meals in cabin kitchens and are welcome to visit local restaurants.

To reserve your place on this trip:

  • a $500 deposit is due by January 1, 2108
  • Your deposit is refundable until April 1, 2018
  • The remaining balance is due by May 1, 2018
