Anticipating Spring!

A few weeks ago we were blessed with a rare sixty-degree day in February. I sat on my screened-in porch at my Certified Wildlife Habitat home sanctuary reveling in the warm raindrops falling all around me. The snow had melted and the sparrows were at the feeder. I noticed a large nest in a willow tree by the creek; definitely not a squirrel’s, a heron’s perhaps? The deer gathered in the meadow in the late afternoon, watching me cautiously as they fed. Our eyes locked and I sent a silent “Hello.” They returned to their feasting. They trusted my harmless glance, perhaps recognizing me from last fall. I inhaled the fresh air and smiled. Although the crisp air and snow returned after that day, so does nature moving toward spring, one sign and living being at a time.
