Expedition Overview

Daily Activities

Each day will be unique and since we will be exploring a wide variety of unique environments throughout this giant state. The travel will be well worth it as each day will bring a new place to explore and experience. Participants must be willing to be flexible as plans can change due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather and local availabilities. Below is a sample itinerary, subject to change.

• May 17: Guests usually fly into town the day before so they’re ready to go on May 18th. Hotel accommodations and local transportation for this are the responsibility of the participant. There are multiple hotel options with a shuttle service from the airport!)
• May 18: Trip officially begins in Anchorage at 8am! We’ll pick you up from where you were staying and begin our adventures! We’ll visit downtown Anchorage, obtain supplies in Eagle River; REI visit is a must!
• May 19: Head to Gold Mint Trail near Independence Mine, then travel to Talkeetna for an introduction to Alaska overnight.
• May 20: Head north in the morning where we may view Denali Mountain and enjoy a piece of local blueberry pie. Visit Mt. Healy, take an evening animal safari in Denali National Park, and check in to the cabins in Healy, Alaska!
• May 21: Explore Denali National Park by bus. Dinner at 49th State Brewery.
• May 22: Lunch on the Denali Highway, and stay in a blueberry patch on Porcupine Hill with 360 views of mountains. Head south towards Anchorage area for the evening.
• May 23: View Matanuska Glacier, restock supplies, travel along the majestic Cook Inlet and venture into town of Hope. Hangout in one of the earliest gold rush towns in Alaska!
• May 24: Depart Hope, drive to Seward where we will take the Resurrection Bay marine wildlife tour visit IRBI Knives Bladesmith Virgil. Visit Exit Glacier.
• May 25: Watch eagles while viewing Mount Redoubt (active volcano), travel to Homer (halibut capital of the world) and the Salty Dog Saloon, scope for bears on the Russian and Kenai Rivers. Spend the night in Kenai, Alaska!
• May 26: Visit the Ak Wildlife Conservation Center, return to Anchorage and do some great sightseeing downtown. Return to Buffalo, or select destination. Departure from airport no earlier than 6:00pm.

Travel

Guests should plan to arrive at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport on May 17th and plan on taking their hotel shuttle to the local hotel for the first night’s stay (Participants are responsible for hotel accommodations on or before the 17th. Flights are not arranged by Earth Spirit nor are they included in the cost of the excursion. Earth Spirit will coordinate picking up all participants from their hotel by 8:00am on May 18th. All local travel throughout the trip will be in a large van(s) driven by the trip leaders.  Departure flights from Alaska will be after 6pm on May 26th.  Should participants wish to stay beyond May 26th, hotel accommodations will be their responsibility.

Accommodations

Accommodations will be included in the trip’s cost and will be variable depending on locations and availability. Most lodging will be semi-communal at local rental properties.

Food

Most meals are included in the cost of the trip. Meals will be either prepared by the trip leaders or purchased for guests while on the road or in town. As food options are limited in Alaska, especially away from the city, it will be difficult to accommodate all food preferences/allergies. Please make any preferences or allergies known when registering and we will do our best to accommodate. There will be a couple instances where guests will be on their own for dinner at restaurants (2-3 times) and guests will be made aware of this ahead of time.
